In the good old days, they knew how to mix different media.
A good example of illustration mixed with photography

Dave Dorman

DoB: 1/10/1958
PoB: Bay City, Michigan   USA
Web address: www.davedorman.com

Dave Dorman has been around for a long time,
illustrating book covers and drawing amazing pieces of
art for Star Wars, Indian Jones, Highlander and many more.

I found an interview with him in the current FX magazine.
He is talking about how he got started and how he got
inspired by the Star Wars and the Aliens Movies.
He also said that George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars,
bought some of his artworks himself.
In 1993 he won the Eisener Award for best Painter,
for his illustration in the book: Alien tribes.

My favorite statement of the interview is:

quote:

"One of the unfortunate drawbacks in doing so much licensed work is that I was branded as  a commercial artist,"

" No matter how hard I triedto bridge myself over  to the creative side - the film making side - of Lucasfilm, I found my way blocked by how I was seen within the organisation, based on my work I had done for them. "

Another Illustrator and graphic designer

Zach Bush

A quote of his website:

Zach Bush, a freelance illustrator, is based outside of Washington D.C. As of 2006,
he has diligently worked to perfect his skills by consistently taking on new projects
by various corporate clients. Zach's success is largely due to his perfectionist nature,
as he will never release a project until he is 100% confident it can not be improved upon any further.
